“Roll out the bunting! Pin the crown on the Kate! Kidnap Mr Whippy! Oh and make William’s special chocolate wedding cake. Don’t throw a party this Friday without Grazias guide..”
I have got my bunting hanging on my bamboo fencing…i have put out lanterns on my washing line and stuck a couple of GB flags in my newly potted plants!! Ready for the wedding of the year (possibly century!). There are plenty of grumpy people in Britain who don’t want to watch the Royal Wedding (can you believe people are still grumpy even though we have been given an extra day off work?!) But I for one am looking forward to the occasion – surely its an historic event, one that when I am a Granny i can reminisce with my grandchildren!
This is a photo from a street party held in honour of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding in 1981
These party tips from Grazia will definetly come in handy in trying to beat the 1981 parties! Enjoy…. 😀
GIANT CHEESE STRAWS – For the 24 cooks working at Buckingham Palace, the royal wedding breakfast menu is a secret guarded just as closely as the designer of Kate Middleton’s dress. We’re not betting on these grown up cheese straws made with English Stilton and fig relish being served though!
425g Jus-Rol puff pastry sheets
1 tbsp Tracklemans organic fig relish
75g Stilton Cheese
1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C – Gas Mark 7
2. Line a large baking sheet with greaseproof paper
3. Lay out one of the pastry sheets and spread the fig relish all over it. Grate the cheese and scatter over. Cover with the remaining sheet of pastry and roll to thin out and join.
4. Using a sharp knife, cut out 10 vertical long strips. Twist each one a few times and place on baking sheet. Bake for 10 – 12 mins until golden brown. Serve when cool.
STRAWBERRY AND PINK CHAMPAGNE TRIFLE – Trifles are a crowd pleaser and granny’s favourite. While our old dears are likely to reach for the sherry to booze up our pudding, we’re sure William’s granny can stretch to popping the cork on some pink champagne.
Serves: 8 – 10
1 large strawberry Swiss roll
For the jelly:
500g frozen berries such as strawberries and raspberries
1 sachet agar
175g caster sugar
350ml pink champagne such as Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rose
For the topping:
300g strawberries and raspberries
300ml double cream
1 tbsp caster sugar
600ml ready-made custard
30g toasted flaked almonds
1. Make the jelly first of all – heat 200ml of the champagne with the sugar over a medium heat and stir in the agar. Add the berries and simmer over a low temperature for 3 – 4mins.
2. Pour this mix into a container, then top up with the remaining wine. Cool and refrigerate to set.
3. To assemble the trifle, slice the Swiss roll and arrange it on the base and around the inside of a large glass serving bowl.
4. Turn the jelly out on to a board and chop with a sharp knife. Scatter it over the Swiss roll. Pour the custard over the jelly.
5. For the topping, whip the cream to soft peaks with 1tbsp sugar and spoon over the custard in dreamy mounds. Decorate with the fresh strawberries and raspberries and a scattering of toasted almonds.

words by Emily Maddick…
” It’s 99 degrees in the Californian desert. Palm trees, pink bougainvillea and beautiful people are everywhere. Everyone’s happy, everyone’s hippy and there’s not a whiff of festival loo or pile of empty Strongbow in sight. This was last week’s Coachella music festival – THE most fashionably fabulous, A-list music event on the planet, setting the agenda for how the rest of us shall be festivalling this summer (lace, headpieces, feathers, maxis and – if you can cope – heels). ”
my favourite pick of the celebrity bunch from coachella is isabel lucas. she couldn’t be more what festival style epitomizes for me, pulled off effortlessly…

“Soft, playful and pretty, this is the best summer hair you’ve ever had. And yes, its the simplest too!….” By Vicki Norton
Glamour asked the master of easy-looking-hair, Sam McKnight, to show how effortlessly sexy hair is done. “I always like looks that are a little more lived in, that have life to them”, he says. “Soft, loose hair with a relaxed texture is perfect for summer. It’s sexy, it’s a little bit ’70s – so relevant this season – and it’s practical. It doesn’t just look easy, it is easy”.
SEXY HAIR STARTS HERE: Tips from Sam McKnight
1/ Start with freshly shampooed hair. You won’t get that unforced lift and healthy sheen if it’s gunky.
2/ Massage some Pro V Volume and Body mousse through the roots and lengths, then blow-dry hair smooth using a large round brush (if your naturally curly) or paddle brusj (if your hair is straight)
3/ For the body, you can use hot rollers or Velcros, but I like a big curling tong. You randomly twist slices of hair around the barrel and carefully pin it up until it’s cool.
And here is some of Sam McKnight’more ‘alternative’ hair looks!
“With serious illness and a divorce firmly behind her GLAMOUR favourite Cheryl Cole is enjoying some much-deserved ‘me time’ in LA.”
